Eudora Welty letters to Francis Murphy, 1962-1976.

Five letters of Eudora Welty to Francis Murphy (usually addressing him as Frank) and one letter of Francis Murphy transmitting a letter to the Smith College Mortimer Rare Book Room. -- Letter, 1962 Jul. 7, 1119 Pinehurst St., Jackson, Miss. Welty discusses Mary Lavin (?), a picture of whom she had enclosed though it is no longer with the letter. She also says she misses Northampton and the people there "& especially did I wish for having someone to mourn with over William Faulkner--his funeral is today." -- Christmas card, 1962 Dec. 19 (postmark). Welty thanks him for sending her a letter and a copy of a speech by W. A. Auden. -- Letter, 1963 Nov. 12. Welty explains to Murphy that she is living with her invalid mother and must, therefore, ask him not to visit her at this time in Jackson. -- Letter, 1976 Jun. 8. Welty accepts Murphy's offer to read at Smith College again if he can fit her into the schedule, possibly in October. -- Letter and postcard, 1976 Oct. 25 (postmark). Welty raves about how she enjoyed coming to Smith to read and about her stay in New York. -- Letter of Francis Murphy to Ruth Mortimer, 1978 Jun.6, transmitting Welty's letter of 1976 Jun. 8 to the Rare Book Room.
